English translation
A sailor uncle of mine. He told the following, which I almost believe he himself experienced. When they were to rouse one of the sailors on a ship one morning, he was found to be dead. They sewed him into sailcloth and cast him into the sea, as is the custom. No sooner was this done, than from below the sea a cry came: "On deck!" The next moment the corpse came rushing up onto the deck. They believed that there was too little weight in the cloth and put in more weights, but the corpse came up again. This happened three times. Then the captain understood that something must be wrong with the dead man. They examined the corpse, and then it turned out that the man had been murdered by an awl being stuck into his heart from the back. Then the captain laid the corpse on deck and had everyone on the ship jump over it. It went well for everyone except one. This one could not jump but was as if held fast by invisible hands when he tried. That was the murderer.

En min morbror var sjöman. Han berättade följande, som jag nästan tror, att han själv varit med om. Då man på ett fartyg skulle purra en av sjömännen en morgon, befanns denne vara död. Man sydde in honom i segelduk och kastade honom i havet, som bruket är. Ej förr var detta gjort, innan det nerifrån sjön ropade: "Under på däck!" Ögonblicket efter kom liket uppfarande på däck. Man trodde, att det var för liten tyngd i duken och lade in flera vikter, men liket kom åter igen upp. Så skedde tre gånger. Då förstod kaptenen, att något måtte vara på tok med den döde. Man undersökte liket, och då visade det sig, att karlen blivit mördad genom att en syl stuckits i hjärtat från ryggsidan. Då lade kaptenen liket på däck och lät alla på fartyget hoppa över det. Det gick bra för alla utom en. Denne kunde ej hoppa utan blev liksom fasthållen av osynliga händer, då han försökte. Det var mördaren.
