A Haunted Cottage

On a farm in Kubbe, there was formerly an old cottage where they claimed it was haunted. My old man traveled around the parish at that time, tailoring, and so one night he came to lie in that cottage. After he had laid down, someone was heard coming in and dropping a pile of sticks on the floor, then he picked them up and dropped them down several times. The old man then lit the candle, but nothing appeared. He got up and looked under the bed, but there too it was empty. Then he extinguished the candle, turned towards the wall, and intended to sleep. Then someone came and lay so heavily on him. A couple of other men who were lying there heard during the night how someone was moving and dragging an iron chain up and down through the stairs and in the attic. In the morning, they noticed that there was no staircase there.
