Ghosts

One dusk, a man drove past a stone lying by the road, where his dog stopped and barked, and his horse reared. For his part, the man couldn't see anything special, but nevertheless stopped and stepped out of the cart and went up to the stone, behind which he now saw a bundle with a head that nodded at him. He didn't stay long but drove away as fast as possible. Not far from this stone is a stream and a bridge over it, under which some drunk men heard a pig grunt one winter night. In their elated state, they jumped on the bridge and shouted, whereupon the pig moved higher up the stream. They now ran there, but upon their arrival, the pig was heard under the bridge again. This went on for a while, until the cause became clear to them, followed by sobriety. For two men, who, joyful and tipsy, came driving one night over the bridge, the shafts fell from the harness, which also contributed to their sobering up.
