English translation

A long time ago, a school in Attmar was haunted. The haunting was not limited to the early hours but also occurred during the day. For instance, one day during an ongoing lesson, a bundle fell from the ceiling in the schoolroom onto the floor, leaving a wet stain behind. The teacher sat speechless with fright at her desk, and some of the children ran out crying. Some nights, the teacher was woken by her blanket being pulled off her. Noise from the schoolroom also sometimes disturbed her sleep. One dark autumn evening, some young people standing on the road just before the school saw a bright lamp light in the schoolroom. Since they knew the teacher was away, they were surprised and went there to investigate the cause. Upon arriving, however, they found the school plunged in darkness, so they turned back. When they reached the spot where they had stood before, they saw the same light again. Now, two of them went back, while an equal number stayed behind. The peculiar thing was that the former, upon their arrival, found the school in darkness, while the others, on the other hand, saw the opposite.

För rätt länge sedan spökade det i en skola i Attmar. Spöktiden var ej allenast förlagd till småtimmarna, utan förekom även på dagarna. Från taket i skolsalen föll sålunda en dag under pågående lektion ett knyte på golvet, där det lämnade en våt fläck efter sig. Lärarinnan satt stum av skräck på katedern, och en del av barnen sprungo gråtande ut. En del nätter väcktes lärarinnan av att täcket drogs av henne. Buller från skolsalen störde också henne sömn ibland. Några ungdomar, som en mörk höstkväll stodo på vägen strax hitom skolan, sågo ett starkt lampsken i skolsalen. Eftersom de visste, att lärarinnan var bortrest, blevo de förvånade och gingo dit för att se efter orsaken. Framkomna funno de emellertid skolan försänkt i mörker, varför de vände om. När de kommit till platsen, där de stått förut, fingo de se samma ljusken igen. Nu gingo två av dem tillbaka, medan lika många stannade kvar. Det egendomliga i saken var, att de förstnämnda vid sin framkomst funno skolan i mörkar, då de andra däremot sågo motsatsen.
