Haunting

Some of our ancestors, and especially those who practiced witchcraft, “walked again” (haunted) after death. Many years ago, there lived in Attmar an old man skilled in magic, who for his sorcery had dead bones in a tin box. He kept the box in the sawdust in the attic. However, the old man died suddenly and “walked again.” He was not seen, but he was heard all the more rummaging in the attic. One night, when the old man’s son-in-law heard him tiptoeing in the attic, he decided to ask the old man the reason for his wandering. He had, namely, heard that a deceased person would answer if addressed. After asking the old man about his errand, the son-in-law received the message that the old man would not find peace in his grave until the bones in the tin box in the attic were placed in consecrated ground. And after the old man revealed the location of the box, it became quiet. In the morning, the son-in-law went to the stated place and found the box, containing some bone fragments, which through the son-in-law's care found their place in the churchyard. After that, the old man lay peacefully in his grave.
