A Haunted Place

It is often claimed that on Stavaberget, drivers have had their traces removed by something invisible. Several trustworthy people have told me that they have been subjected to this adventure. When manager Leyon had married and the wedding party was driving from the church to the bride's home in Lemelsjö, the left traces fell off all the horses simultaneously there on Stavarberget. They have also encountered other mischief there. A boy, who was driving over the mountain, saw his "grandfather" walking ahead on the road. He hurried the horse to catch up with the old man, because he intended to offer him a ride. But no matter how fast he drove, the old man remained just as far ahead. Finally, the boy lost sight of him completely. When he arrived home, he heard that "grandfather" had been dead for several days. The boy's name was Viktor Nilsson and he lived with his parents here in the village. He is probably still alive, but it has been a long time since he moved to a foreign land.
